Shipley Green Grants

We were delighted to receive a Green Grant from Shipley Town Council to support people in progressing the Shipley Climate Action Plan in whatever ways feel most relevant, appropriate and doable to them.

The project involves a series of workshops where we are:
  • Exploring the Shipley Citizen's Jury on Climate Change and the subsequent Shipley Climate Action Plan that resulted from the process.
  • Spending time thinking about what ways might be most relevant, appropriate and doable for us to contribute as individuals / part of groups / organisations / communities and networks.
  • Planning ideas and actions that we can trial as individuals / a collective.
  • Reviewing our actions – what worked? What were the impacts? What were the challenges? What support might be needed in future to do more / something different? What happens next?
We held our first workshop on Sunday 4th Sept at the fantastic Salts Works where we discussed everything from information campaigns to insulation and lambs lettuce to lobbying (see above images for more!)!

The actions we are trialing include:
  • Exploring public transport - using it to get to work and to go on a family day trip
  • Encouraging biodiversity through planting clover in lawns, nature sensitive 'weeding' and expanding Shipley in Bloom activities
  • Developing accessible information around nature friendly gardening - what are the basics?
  • Researching and refreshing knowledge around planning and housing development
  • Growing our own - sowing some winter salad and lambs lettuce

Helen Mawson, Deputy Town Clerk of Shipley Town Council said: 'We generated lots of good ideas.  I came away keen to try to do some things differently and to spread the word!'

If you would like to be involved in our next workshop, please fill in this doodle poll for dates in September. All are welcome!
