Old Spring Wood Community Space

Picture
Nifty successfully applied for funding from the Shipley Area Fund to co-create a beautiful community space on a neglected green area in Shipley. The area, which sits within the boundaries of Northcliffe Park, has huge potential as an environmental and community asset but suffers from localised flooding and waterlogging, and is underused.

Nifty developed a plan for the area, and carried out a community consultation with local residents in partnership with two local organisations, Fruit Works and YORgreencic. The area now boasts wildflower strips, spring bulbs, fruit trees and bushes, woodland trees, a fabulous insect hotel, three lovely planters, filled with herbs for community-use and a smashing bench made with reclaimed materials. We are also hoping to pop in an information board and a little library so it becomes a space where people want to spend time.

As a Shipley resident herself, Jen has managed the project on behalf of Nifty on a goodwill basis and Nifty  funded the herbs in the planters. This is as part of Nifty’s commitment to invest in exciting and worthwhile initiatives. We are always on the lookout for other ways to use our funds and would welcome suggestions.
